FLOORING

Flooring
Let’s face it, carpets are disgusting. They may look nice and feel good under your feet but they are the perfect breeding ground for dust mites. An average 6 room house will home over 40 pounds of dust mites with over 5000 of the tiny insects living on every square foot of carpet.

Dust mites live on dead skin cells and with humans shredding 1 and half grams per day, it’s enough for 2 million dust mites to live on. Gross right? And that’s before we move onto carpet bugs – ewwwww…. Enough is enough.

It is believed that 10% of asthma in the US is attributed to dust mites and carpet bugs – time to get rid of your old carpet and trade it for a hypoallergenic floor covering instead. Immediately you will feel the difference in yours and the lungs of your family. And as for dust mite’s fecal matter that can float in the air like tiny dust particles – we’re not even going there – lose your carpet now…

When choosing a floor covering, look carefully at the rooms and how much foot traffic they are likely to get. Entrance ways and the kitchen are probably the areas with most traffic and you’ll probably want something waterproof for wet feet or spillages so consider tiled floors there. For the lounge or sitting room you may want a nice hard of softwood to accentuate the overall theme of the room. In bedrooms, especially for those of children banging toys around you may want something hard-wearing like laminates and in the garage maybe an epoxy flooring.

When posting your project, include the area of the room, add a little bit for offcuts/wastage. If you’re going for natural wood specify the finish you require as well as the actual wood. Do you need matching baseboards? Door Frames? And have you thought about underlay – Ask for a bid that includes a complete flooring job – if underlay is not necessary your bid will reduce in cost to reflect such. It just makes sense to do it this way as unless you laid that floor yourself you have no idea what is under it. Remember too to tell your contractor what you are replacing whether its carpet, linoleum, a broken or dated tiled floor or maybe a rotten wooden floor.

Hiring anyone to carry work in your home can be daunting. Letting strangers into your home is even more scary. While many homeowners may go into detail about pricing and materials and quality of work – they rarely ask their contractor for their license details and never ask about their possible criminal background or if their staff are felons.

For your peace of mind, all flooring contractors featured on 23HourBids.com have been background checked for your safety and security. Don't let anyone into your home without the 23HourBids.com seal of safety and security.
