Criminal Background Checks

In your lifetime how many people have you hired to carry out work in your home?

Do you really know these people?

Have you asked for their state license details?

Have you asked about a possible criminal history?

How do you know they’re not on a sex offender’s list somewhere?

Have you ever recommended these guys to friends or family?

How many of those people have you actually background checked?

Have you left a complete stranger in your house with your spouse and children?

Scary isn’t it?

What’s even scarier is not even the state license board screen technicians - this excerpt is from the cslb - click to view the cslb page regarding fingerprints.

“All applicants for license and each officer, partner, owner, and responsible managing employee, as well as home improvement salesperson applicants, must be fingerprinted. Individuals currently licensed by CSLB who do not apply for any changes to their license and applicants for a joint venture license are not required to be fingerprinted.”

This basically means that the only people that get background checked are the owner(s) of the company and the salesperson - not the actual workers who will be in your home for extended periods of time with your family!

Right now - you have no protection from anyone as to who comes into your home - you have no idea who they really are - until now...

Like most people you’ve probably never even thought about it but now you’re thinking. Scary huh?

By choosing contractors through word of mouth or the phone book or online resources you really have no idea who you are inviting into your house and you could be putting your friends and family and possessions in grave danger.

23HourBids.com aims to put your mind at rest.

And before we get into if these people are criminals or not, let’s look at these other possibilities…

Do they have the right insurance and if not what happens if they hurt themselves while on your property?

Are you responsible? Yes...

Can he/she sue for medical insurance, loss of work, compensation? Yes…

If you can’t pay can they take your home? Yes...

Are you covered? Probably not – as it’s up to the homeowner to ensure they are covered for contractor’s accidents. A quick google search of “premises liability” will show you instances of families losing their homes due to injuries that were incurred by contractors while working in their homes or even on the property of the homeowner.

For example, what if an uninsured roofer falls off your roof?

You know that guy who knocks at your door offering to trim your tree? What if he falls out of it?

Or the guy you hired outside Home Depot to do some handyman work?

GWhat if your window cleaner falls off his ladder or an uninsured electrician blows himself up in your house? You could be bankrupted - you must insure that anyone who comes onto your property is adequately insured to cover any unfortunate eventuality or you may lose your home.

Before hiring a contractor , check out their business page on 23HourBids.com or type their business name in here or his license number in here. Sex Offenders LIst

Criminal background checks may also include a sex offender’s registry check, which searches registries across all states to report where a candidate may be currently registered as a sex offender.

Double vetting

Pursuant to California law*, all Contractors State License Board (CSLB) license applicants are required to submit a full set of fingerprints for criminal background check. … *Business and Professions Code sections 144 and 7069, and California Code of Regulations sections 869.1, 869.2, 869.3, 869.4, and 869.5.

In order to register and be licensed with the CSLB, contractors must submit their fingerprints for their criminal background check – when a contractor submits their bid for your home improvement project, check out their unique business page and copy and paste their cslb license number here to check for yourself – this is our way of double checking the credentials of all of our contractors as your safety and security is our main concern.

We advise all homeowners to run the name of the contractor through governmental sites such as Megan’s Law to ensure nothing unsavory has happened since their sign-up stage to 23HourBids.com.
