Pest Control
Termites cause around 5 billion dollars worth of damage to homes in America every single year. Once they’re in they will eat you literally out of house and home.
Bed bugs are a type of insect that feed on human blood, usually at night. Their bites can result in a number of health impacts including skin rashes, psychological effects and allergic symptoms. Bed bug bites may lead to skin changes ranging from invisible to small areas of redness to prominent blisters.
Even for weeks or months after complete extermination, bed bugs, or lack of, can still keep you up all night. By far the worst of any insect than can invade your house. A single bed bug can lay thousands of eggs in her lifetime with very short ingestion periods of just 6 days. They can survive temperatures of freezing to over 120 degrees and live anywhere in your home, usually where you sleep. They are attracted by your breathing and you will never feel their bite as their saliva is an anaesthetic to humans. Bedbugs can be chemically treated or heat treated and may need more than one treatment. Definitely not a DIY bug to get rid of.
Treatments can be expensive but are covered on most home insurance policies including bed covers and mattresses so check with your home insurance provider first. Ewwwwwww!
Mosquitoes like to live around stagnant water like your pool that hasn’t been used in a while and when your pool is in use it attracts water bugs – you can’t win.
From ants to rats including spiders and roaches there are over 50 bugs and rodents that just love to live amongst us. Most treatments are kid and animal safe but it’s always good to check with your exterminator before spraying. Google the chemicals yourself and enquire as to drying times and when it is safe to go back in that particular room again. With bed bugs make sure to treat the whole house - every single inch of it!
When posting your project try include pictures of the pests you’ve found, possible quantities too and the rooms you’ve found them in.
Include pictures of any bites or rashes you see on family members. With bedbugs, telltale signs are tiny bites but more obviously are tiny spots of blood on sheets or pillow cases. Bedbugs are excellent hiders and will nest anywhere, especially under your mattress or in the seams of the boxspring. Baby bed bugs are almost translucent while adults look like tiny black apple seeds – they are deceptively quick.
Tip – they had rubbing alcohol – until your contractor arrives cover beds in 85% rubbing alcohol. This will kill them if you spray directly on them, it may also kill eggs but get a professional in asap. Bed bugs are rampant across the states but especially abundant in larger cities like New York and Los Angeles but also the Central Valley which is just alive with them. They are also great travellers and will go anywhere with anyone. A typical place to bring home bed bugs from are hotels and camps. Never buy a second hand bed and even with furniture such as couches or armchairs be very careful.
With whatever pest you need to exterminate, ask your contractor can you buy a monthly service where they come by and spray your house from top to toe.
Hiring anyone to carry work in your home can be daunting. Letting strangers into your home is even more scary. While many homeowners may go into detail about pricing and materials and quality of work – they rarely ask their contractor for their license details and never ask about their possible criminal background or if their staff are felons.
